The primary functions of the Head of Safety are to develop, monitor and implement Welcome Breaks H&S and Food safety policies; to ensure they are compliant with H&S and Food safety legislation and to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers and accidents. This role not only ensures the health and safety of the workers but also of the workplace, environment and our suppliers, contractors and customers.

 

About the Role.

The Head of Safety is responsible for ensuring the working environment is without risk to health for our team members and customers whilst Leading and developing the Safety co-ordinator role.

 

Management of regulatory processes

  • Ensure that all Food Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated, including food hygiene ratings, allergens and HACCP.
  • Implement a process and review to ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities
  • Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
  • Primary Authority partnership relationship for fire, food, H&S, Petrol, Trading standards and age restricted sales.
  • Liaising with the L&D team support and establish a structured programme of health & safety training throughout the Company. 
  • Personal Management licence holder (gaming)

Enforcement

  • Identify and highlight to the SLT the opportunities WB must meet and improve H&S and Food safety standard
  • Review the process and ensure that full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained on all sites. Follow up and ensure that all accidents are documented through FACT, investigated and recommended improvements implemented.
  • To ensure that RIDDOR requirements are followed,
  • Point of contact for enforcement officers and enforcement visits.

Brands

  • Liaise and promote brand relationships providing general advice to the brands, reviewing brand procedures and audits. Aid smaller brands
  • Act as a competent person for brand contact.

 

Operational support

  • Create a support a culture of safety awareness, including implementing a process to ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments
  • Report on operational compliance.

Property

  • Liaise with the development team on the current estate and maintenance
  • Provide support with new development projects, including involvement in planning and design
  • Ensure contractors work to the correct H&S policies and rules.

Corporate

  • Create and update the corporate risk register
  • Act as a competent person
  • Manage the risk and audit committee
  • Highlight to the SLT situations deemed to be at risk and to propose courses of corrective action.

Audit / suppliers

  • Liaise with the nominated external provider to ensure a full programme of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks Food Alert and Serve Legal.
  • Provide general advice and support to Operational Teams on Food Alert and Serve Legal.
  • Management of the relationship with the pest control suppliers
  • Involvement and leadership in the provision of new suppliers and services.

 

Your experience

 

  • Recent and relevant experience in a similar role
  • Degree in related subject such environmental health.
  • Experience of formulating, implementing and revising H&S policies and procedures
